Late Gospel Singer Osinachi, Peter Nwachukwu Escapes From Kuje Prison

Peter Nwachukwu, the late gospel singer Osinachi's spouse, escaped from Abuja's Kuje Prison.

Peter Nwachukwu, the late gospel singer's husband, was one of the detainees who escaped during the Islamic State-backed section of Boko Haram's attack on the Kuje Correctional Centre in Abuja last Tuesday (ISWAP).

"We learned the husband of the late gospel singer was absent during our roll call yesterday," a top prison official informed SaharaReporters.

On June 3, a Federal Capital Territory High Court in Wuse remanded Nwachukwu to the Kuje Correctional Facility pending the hearing and determination of a homicide-related complaint filed against him by the Attorney General of the Federation.

His wife died on April 8, and many of her coworkers accused him of subjecting her to domestic violence, which led to her death.

According to LightCast, the Nigerian authorities previously reported that 879 convicts escaped from the facility after the terrible attack.

"A total of 879 convicts escaped from the facility during the terrible incident."

As of the time of this report, 443 detainees had been recaptured, 551 were still in jail, 4 were dead, and 16 were injured and were being treated.

"However, efforts continue to recapture all escaping inmates," said Umar Abubakar, spokesperson for the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS).
